Set of older Maine Vacationland License Plates - Quite controversial

Offered here are two older Maine license plates. This is the first time Maine put a lobster on its plates and the design was used from 1987 thru 1999. The Maine legislature followed the advice of schoolchildren in Saco, Maine and voted to put a lobster on the vehicle license plates starting in July of 1987. This decision immediately created conflict. Potato growers, forestry workers, admirers of lighthouses and blueberries felt left out. In addition to that controversy most of us Mainers hated the design. We thought that the lobster looked more like a crawdad. Google crawdad images and see if you don't agree.
Today Maine offers a much more suitable lobster plate design and I have included a picture of that plate which is NOT included in this offering but will help you understand our feelings. I'll have to dig around and find my "good" lobster plates and put them up on eBay at a later date.
